It is for this reason that I propose the ADT Alarm System. ADT is considered to be one of the most reliable brands that offer home security systems in the United States and Canada. It has been in the business for more than 145 years and is the largest security company that guards more homes and small business premises in North America.

ADT’s home security systems are wired and wireless, and their features include motion sensors, security cameras, glass breaks, smoke, CO detectors, and control panels. They can also be professionally installed and ADT centers can monitor them day and night against burglary, fire, and other threats to the environment.

This aspect of using ADT for home security involves activating the security system to protect the home by sounding an alarm when specific zones such as doors or windows, which had been wired with sensors, are opened while the system is on. There are several ways to disarm and arm

Understanding Stay Mode Most ADT alarm systems have three main arming modes:

Away – turns off all the arms in the system and all the sensors and zones. Stay – the arms on all sensors and zones except on the Stay zones Instant – is limited to Stay mode arming that arms only the specific sections of a perimeter. The Stay mode is designed for cases where one is at home in the evening or on other occasions when one is inside the home yet requires more security. For instance, Stay mode can be used if a person wishes to roam around the house during the night, and no motion detectors are placed inside the house. However, some of the exterior doors and windows and any identified Stay areas will remain armed to trigger a loud alarm if opened.

It offers protection while indoors, thus giving one a sense of relief when they are in their homes with an added backup of alarm systems. The only distinct difference from the Away mode is that while the system can distinguish internal movement from external intrusions, it does not trigger annoying alarms each time movement is detected within the house.

By default, Stay zones usually include:

Interior motion sensors Downstairs doors Basement doors However, your ADT technician should discuss and help you during installation to consider some areas to be Stay areas rather than the perimeter area that needs to be armed at all times even when the system is set in Stay mode.

  1. This is particularly important when arming the system since the doors and windows should be closed at all times. They shall also avoid the arming of open zones.
  2. On the control panel, use the keypad provided to punch in your 4-digit security or master code. Ideally, only you and members of your household should have the user code, and it is best not to disclose it to guests or short-term house sitters.
  3. Dial the star button on the keypad within 30 seconds of pressing the code. In this stage, you may hear the panel producing some beeping tones, Status LEDs illuminated, and you will also hear a voice prompt that the system is now “Armed Stay”.
  4. Exit time delays usually last between 30 and 90 seconds on average so you get time to move to other sections not using the alarm after setting the Stay mode. Some ADT panels allow a user to set an exit delay time and you can check your ADT manual to know the period of your panel.

And that is it – your ADT security system is protecting the outer space of your home while you and your family can move around your Stay zones without any hindrances!

To self-discharge from the Stay mode when prepared to do so (for example during waking up), you have to press the master code on the control panel. The system will then speak, “Disarmed Ready to Arm”.

Better Armoring to Stay with an ADT Pulse App If you have an ADT Pulse system installed then you are in luck as your panel is compatible with the application. However, instead of having to use the keypad in the panel, users can arm, disarm, and even check on their systems through the Pulse phone application.

How you would remotely arm your system in Stay mode:

  1. Navigate to the ADT Pulse mobile application and sign in with your username and password. When you are having the system installed for the first time, your installer will give you the login details for the apps.
  2. Choose the Security icon from the bottom of the menu bar presented in the application interface.
  3. Select the “Modes” menu at the top of the page. This will show any other arming modes such as Stay, Away, Instant/Maximum, etc, if any.
  4. The next action is to press the blue stay mode icon. You will receive the menu to ask if you want to change to the Stay armed state.
  5. Again, press the OK button to further arm the system in the Stay mode.

You will then be provided with both, visual and audible notifications that your alarm is armed in the Stay mode. Each of the above zones will also indicate their new armed state in the app.

Interior Motion Detection – The areas marked as Stay zones such as interior motion detectors will be avoided during the Stay mode to prevent internal alarms. So, be cautious that any movement within will not set off motion alarms to the ADT monitoring center in case you do not disarm.

Entry/Exit Delights Still Remain – Intended to afford you time to input your disarm code while the alarm is not sounding. The typical response time is under 60 seconds; however, it can take a little longer depending on the situation.

Pets can still trigger – While getting pet-friendly motion detectors is advisable, they should be installed in Stay zones if possible. However, it is possible to have the Stay armed, and larger animals can then trip the perimeter motion sensors.

Stay mode – if you set your Stay mode during installation; your system can re-arm itself at a specific time if Stay mode has not been disarmed manually (for instance, when waking up or leaving the bedroom).

Emergency Buttons Available – Fire or medical emergencies and panic/ emergency buttons will be able to trigger signals to the ADT monitoring centers for help even while the alarm panel remains armed for Stay.

Choose Stay When: Stay mode allows household members to move in the night within confined elevated areas without generating nuisance alarms. It’s ideal for:

Sleeping at night Sleeping or resting at some other part of the day Entertaining guests Pets who are dogs or cats on the street Work-from-home days Home ill or having responsibility for young children Overall, it is important to note that when the Stay mode is activated in the ADT alarm system, you are given security while you can move around within certain interior zones that have been programmed to be unarmed. It is quite easy and quick to switch between modes using the control panels as well as the smartphone applications. Therefore, remember to include it as one of the measures of home security to be implemented consistently!
