To enhance the security of your home, you can fix a smart video doorbell such as the Ring Doorbell which enables you to see and interact with the individuals at your door even when you are not within the house. Installation of the Ring Doorbell is easy, and usually, homeowners can complete the process in less than an hour. In essence, the only requirements for use are a compatible device for viewing the video feed and reliable WiFi at the install location.

What You Need?

Before installing your Ring Doorbell, make sure you have all of the required supplies:

  • Ring Video Doorbell Cameras The Ring Camera can work with any model of the Ring Doorbell with the range of Ring Doorbell Wired, Ring Doorbell Battery, Ring Doorbell Pro, Ring Doorbell Elite, etc.
  • Power Drill  Used in making holes through which the wires will pass or where the base plate will be secured to the door frame. If you plan to install the doorbell on a brick, concrete, stucco, or any hard surface, you will also need a small masonry drill bit.
  • Screwdriver  Used to fix the doorbell bracket into position and the wires, or to change the angle of the doorbell while fixing it.
  • Ladder (optional)  It may be required if the door is located above or if the technician has to mount the doorbell at a certain level.
  • WiFi Connection  Your Ring Doorbell must be connected to a -compatible GHz home WiFi network for remote streaming and alerts.

Ring Doorbell App This is a good app for iPhone and Android phones to help you install the Ring Doorbell and control it from your phone after installation.

Choose an Install Location

Consider where your Ring Doorbell is going to be located before you begin. Some of the best locations are on or just under the door frame, particularly the front door. Make sure the location you select meets these requirements:

  • Within WiFi range  Here you must ensure that your doorbell is within a certain range of the router so that it can be able to receive a strong and stable signal.
  • Power source nearby (wired version only)  The wired Ring Doorbell Pro must be connected to a transformer or directly to a low-voltage wire supplying - volts. This is usually accomplished through wiring around the door frame or rear junction box.
  • Cameras should be placed in areas that record the faces of the visitors but should not be easily blinded by lighting. You may need to angle it if you have mounted the camera on a tripod. Do not forget about lighting conditions during the night also.

Get WiFi Details

Ensure you have your wireless network name and password with you as you carry out the following procedures. During the setup process, you will have to link the Ring application to the WiFi. It is wise to write these details down so that one can easily refer to them during the installation process.

It is a fact that if your network is camouflaged you will require to make it discoverable for a short period while connecting Ring to the WiFi for the first time.

Mount and Wire the Doorbell (Wired Versions)

If you bought a wired Ring Doorbell model, the subsequent procedure is more physical where the doorbell must be fixed at the entrance door or outside wall.

First, try this by flipping circuit breakers for the wires available at the doorbell area. Check that there is no power in the wires before wiring the device. Attach the two doorbell wires to the screw posts on the rear base plate of the new doorbell following the colors of the wires if you are replacing an old doorbell.

Mount the base plate in the wall with the flat side down and install the screws and anchors that may be suitable for the wall type. Neatly manage any protruding wires into the wall opening then finally fix the plate in place above or beside the door.

If your existing doorbell wiring cannot deliver the required current to power Ring Doorbell Pro, you can include the Ring Pro Power Kit that is sold by Ring which has a plug-in transformer to supplement the wired power if necessary.

Mount and Charge Battery-Powered Versions:

For battery-powered video doorbell models such as the Ring Doorbell, Ring Doorbell, or Ring Doorbell Elite, the installation is quite easy. All that is required is to firmly attach the doorbell to the desired location outside, and then ensure that the rechargeable battery is fully charged before installation.

As with the wired motion detector, select a suitable location that can be close to the door(s) entryway and must have a direct line-of-sight to the doorway area. Attach the mounting bracket on the wall using the screws you were provided with, then plug the Ring Doorbell into place.

Charge the device for not less than six hours before you try to pair or connect the device to an in-app setup. This is important to allow the battery the required starting power to stay on during the entire process.

Connect and Configure in the Ring App

All Ring Doorbell models are now physically placed outside; complete the configuration with the help of Ring's free mobile application compatible with iOS and Android devices.

Open the Ring app and tap on Set up a Ring Device. Select the Ring product type that you wish to install from the list provided below. On the side or beneath the Ring Doorbell, there is a QR code that you need to scan, then follow the on-screen prompts to connect the device to your Ring account.

Choose a name for your doorbell, place it in the preferred area, set up the device by linking it to your Wi-Fi, and configure the settings such as the motion zones, among other steps that the application will guide you through. This may take several minutes depending on the strength of the WiFi connection available on the PC.

Finally, the Ring Doorbell should display a live video preview to ensure that everything is functioning correctly!

Use and Manipulate From Your Phone

Finally, when the in-app setup is done, your Ring Doorbell will be capable of recording videos, identifying visitors, sending mobile notifications, and interacting with Alexa and other Ring devices such as security cameras or smart lights.

In addition to the live view, motion detection, and two-way talk, you can set up more options and control all the features of the doorbell through the Ring app on your smartphone or tablet. Take advantage of the security it offers from any location through cellular data or a wireless internet connection.

Optional Ring subscriptions should be considered to allow the recording history of the video and more features if needed. However, basic functionality is fully set up through the app connected to your WiFi home network and works automatically immediately after the process is completed.

Have your Ring Video Doorbell easily installed at your home entry point, and then relish in the never-before-seen visibility and calmness it brings you. Further third-party compatibility and smart home controls make this a valuable tool for protection and comfort.
