Home Security System at homes have gained popularity in the recent past as individuals look for ways to secure their homes and surroundings. Among the home security cameras, there is a company called Eufy that has quickly gained popularity and is considered one of the best. The key features that make Eufy cameras unique include the ability to deliver high-quality videos at a low cost, no monthly fees for using the cameras, and compatibility with other smart home gadgets.

A typical question that most users ask about Eufy cameras is whether they continuously record videos or if they record only when there is movement. The answer to this question would depend on the type of Eufy camera in question and the settings of that particular camera. Here is a breakdown of how continuous recording works on different Eufy camera lines:

Solo Indoor Cameras

The Eufy Solo Indoor Cam and Solo Indoor Cam Pan and Tilt do not have the option of recording video at all times. These cameras only begin to record when they sense movement in the vicinity of the camera. When motion ceases, they cease recording after a set recording time, which is usually between 10 and 60 seconds.

Therefore, even though the indoor Solo cams do not record continuously, they do so on a motion detection basis. Their motion detection feature is quite good for surveillance of rooms and to alert about movement. However, there will not be constant video recording going on.

SoloCam Outdoor Cameras

Similar to the indoor models, the Eufy SoloCam series outdoor cameras do not continuously capture footage without being triggered to do so. The SoloCams begin to record when their passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor detects motion within the camera’s view range. Once the motion stops, the recording stops after 10-60 seconds depending on your choice.

However, Eufy has provided the SoloCam cameras with a Time-Lapse feature that enables them to capture a snapshot of the area at a given interval and compile them to form a fast-forwarded video. The intervals can be as short as five minutes or as long as thirty minutes.

Thus, though not continuous video, the time-lapse does offer the opportunity to film during the day and night. It provides a general idea of how much traffic is passing by the camera area. However, the quality is much lower than in the full motion-triggered recording, primarily because the frame rate and details in the time-lapse footage are significantly lesser.

SoloCam S40 Solar Panel & Battery Camera

This is not like most cameras we have come across because the SoloCam S40 relies on solar power due to its built-in solar panel to charge its batteries, meaning that it doesn’t require an electrical outlet to plug into. However, because of the dependency of the unit on solar charge, it does not capture video feed all day and night.

However, the S40 Cam only monitors motion events like all the other SoloCams within the car’s interior. It remains active and starts recording when it detects motion and continues until about a minute after the motion has ceased. One drawback of relying on solar power is that it provides the S40 with virtually infinite battery life during the day. However, what we lose is the feature of constant recording throughout the day.

SoloCam E20 WiFi Camera

The Eufy SoloCam E20 has taken a step forward in the direction of providing continuous recording capability. It has options for time stamp and date, if you add a microSD card for memory, the E20 can be programmed to record 24/7. This makes it a good choice if you want continuous recording.

It has a motion detection feature that lets the E20 record events as they happen when there is no microSD card inserted. However, including the card lets the 24/7 recording mode, which helps to obtain a complete video library. But, do not forget that if the recording is never stopped, it will consume more power and will need a bigger memory card.

SoloCam Wire-Free Battery Cameras

The SoloCam Wire-Free camera series of the Eufy involves the utilization of batteries instead of AC power cords. Just like the other Wire-Free cameras such as the SoloCam L20, the cameras cannot record for 24 hours a day because they solely depend on battery power.

However, the L20 and any other Wire-Free cameras provide motion detection as the recording feature. Whenever the PIR sensor detects motion, it begins recording until approximately 1 minute after the motion stops. This assists in preserving the battery power as one records key incidents. However, having constant 24/7 recording is problematic since many people face power issues. Simply bear in mind that their battery-powered construction applies to the recording time expectations.

SoloCam L40 Series With Spotlight

All of the Wire-Free models have the recording characteristics associated with motion detection in the SoloCam L40 cameras. And they incorporate bright LED spotlights enhancing color night vision up to 100 feet range. However, similar to the other lithium-ion battery-operated SoloCams, the feature of continuous 24/7 recording is not possible. As for the movement recording, it remains traditional, which is useful for battery charge preservation.

If you prefer having no interruption in recording, the SoloCam L40 cameras may not suit you. However, their color night vision capabilities make them a fairly adaptable security solution nonetheless. It is just important to know that they cannot provide continual footage because they depend on batteries.

Dual & Dual Lite WiFi Cameras

In contrast to the SoloCam series which comprises devices that run on batteries, the Eufy Dual and Dual Lite cameras are wired into outlets. This makes them capable of recording for 24 hours continuously if a microSD card is inserted into it. It offers them the possibility of a more extensive video range than the predominantly motion-activated SoloCam series.

By default, the Dual cameras capture based on the motion that is observed by the system. However, if a memory card is inserted, it is possible to enable so-called “Cycle Recording” mode, in which the equipment records to the card over and over in a cycle. Video is recorded continuously, twenty-four hours a day, at the same time, the footage recorded is overwritten by the new footage recorded. This provides round-the-clock security without using much of the card capacity.

Thus, for non-stop recording, the Dual series is more beneficial than most of the SoloCams which work unpredictably. Just note that continuous recording does imply that the cameras are always on and connected to a power source, and equipped with a memory card.

EufyCam 2 Series

Eufy’s completely wireless cameras, the EufyCam 2, provide a versatile solution for home security. The cameras themselves are equipped with batteries that have power sources from solar panels that can last for a year. And importantly, their base station transmitter enables the continuous recording of videos if a micro SD card is used.

The lack of a card triggers the EufyCam 2 system to record events based on the motion of people. However, by placing local storage in the base station, you can make it record in a mode where it records continuously, day and night. This results in providing enhanced security compared to only monitoring motion occurrences.

Another recording feature available in the EufyCam 2 is the HomeBase Auto-Download. In the same manner, when HomeBase recognizes imminent occurrences such as people through cameras, the segment shall be downloaded to the microSD card. This ensures that any important event that occurs in the monitored area is captured on tape irrespective of the power state of the camera.

In general, 24/7, EufyCam 2 cameras make 24/7 recording to a memory card in HomeBase possible. This makes them ideal for anyone who requires continuous security services without interruption. It is equipped with a motion capture feature, along with continuous capturing without any hindrance.

Some general and specific points that would help understand the Eufy Camera 24/7 Recording

To recap the key aspects of continuous recording with Eufy cameras:

  • Indoor Solo cams & most SoloCam models do not record continuously because of battery power constraints or other factors
  • If a microSD card is inserted then SoloCam E20 can record 24/7.
  • The dual series provides 24/7 recording to a memory card that is installed in the cameras.
  • EufyCam 2 can record around the clock provided that there is a card inserted in the HomeBase.

Therefore, if you are interested in continuous 24/7 monitoring with your specific camera model and power capabilities, this may or may not be possible. While using motion detection and continuous recording, there are advantages and disadvantages of each. But it all depends on the requirements and preferences of each user.

If there is a need for non-stop security footage, the EufyCam 2 and Dual series are good choices. Due to limitations of the battery and processing capability, most of the SoloCams do not record round-the-clock. Still, they offer beneficial motion-activated capture.

So, think about the choices along with your requirements for determining whether continuous recording is necessary or if motion-based captures will suffice for monitoring the home environment and property.
