ADT is considered to be one of the largest monitored Home Security System service providers in America. Almost all ADT systems have what is known as a master code which is pre-installed and used to program the security system to arm and disarm it and even to include or exclude other codes of other users.

Things You'll Need:

  • ADT security system keypad is a security device that is used to allow or deny access to a particular room in a house or building.
  • The main code that will be used for your ADT system

Step 1: To begin with, on the keypad, you will type your Master Code. Firstly, the user is required to type his or her 4-digit ADT master code into the keypad. This one is your master code and will give you access to the overall program menu in your panel. If ever you lost your ADT master code or if you do not have it at the moment, then you must contact ADT customer service to get it.

Once you input the correct master code, the Ready light will go out, while the other light in the keypad will come on. This will get you into the programming mode.

Step 2: On the keyboard, press the Code Key. After getting into the master code the keypad is in programming mode it is followed by pressing the Code key. On most ADT keypads the button in question bears a label similar to Add/Delete Codes or Program Codes. When this button is pressed, a number from 01 to 30 will be displayed over it which shows the slot of the code that is to be set.

Step 3: Assign a Code Slot Number This is as highlighted in the previous step, a 2-digit code slot number which ranges from 01 and 30 appears when the Code key is pressed. This makes it easy to use the arrow keys of the keypad to make your way to the required slot number for your new code. The first code slot is typically set with a fixed code known as master code. As for our suggestions, we advise you to enter your new code into an unused slot like 02 or any number higher than that.

Step 4: Input Your New 4-Digit Change Code Having scrolled to the code slot number that you want to use, you will then type in your preferred new 4-digit code. Typically, ADT systems permit number code ranges of between 4 and 6 digits. A code cannot be in sequential numbers or the same numbers repeated in a row (1111,1234) and cannot be a master code. Input the required four-digit code on the keypad and confirm it by pressing the OK or the Enter button.

Step 5: Confirm Your New Code Once you enter your newly set 4-digit code, the keypad will display a confirmation message and ask you to confirm the code entered. This ensures accurate input. To program a new 4-digit code, repeatedly press * and then enter the code that you want to program, and finally press Enter or OK. To confirm the code, again press the same 4-digit code and press Enter or OK.

Step 6: Test the New Alarm Code You should receive a prompt indicating that your new user code has been included successfully. The keypad lights will stop blinking and the Ready light will become continuous. Go through your new code by arming your system and disarming it. If you can program the code to control the arming and the disarming of the system, then congratulations you have completed the programming. If not, then you may have to return through steps 2-5.

Programming Additional Alarm Codes If you wish to set another 4-digit alarm code for your family members or any other person allowed in your house, then you can repeat the steps highlighted above from steps 2 to 6 until you reach the number of control panel codes allowed which is usually 30 in most cases. Simply go to step 3 select an available 2-digit code slot number and then program a new and different 4-digit code. When each code is given an identification number of the user, it is possible to tell who set or reset the alarm which is quite appropriate for tracking the movements of teenagers or employees as well.

Instead, the following should be documented in a written form for record-keeping purposes: All programmed alarm codes and the names of users to whom they have been assigned. Save this document in a safe place where you can return to this in case you forget a code that you have developed.

  • If permitted, use the master code at intervals and there is a need to change it.
  • To clear the alarm codes that are no longer used, the programmer should remove them to create some space in the alarm code slots.
  • Make it a point that others in the house are aware of the number that has been assigned to them.
  • The master code should only be used when adding or deleting codes.

As you will learn from the following sections, you can introduce alarm codes that are unique to the specific ADT home security system to enhance its efficiency in tracking usage and activities. Having the ability to add and program the alarm codes is helpful since it provides a measure of personalization to the safety system.
