Replacing the battery of your ADT alarm system is just as crucial as any other regular maintenance that needs to be done to ensure that your alarm system will work in case of a power failure. Change of the battery guarantees that the alarm will stay in service and sound the alarm to call emergency services in case an intruder trips the system or a fire or CO leak occurs while the power is off. This task can be done within 10-15 minutes only depending upon the speed and efficiency of the person doing it.

First of all, you have to screw to take it off using a small Phillips head screwdriver and then you will have to buy a new 12-volt sealed lead acid or gel cell alarm system battery which is available in most electronics, hardware or home security stores and on the internet. Remember that the new battery specifications should ideally be in line with the required battery specifications for your control panel. If you are not sure, check the door on the ADT panel or the manual for further information.

First, locate the key on your ADT control panel box which often is installed near an entry door of your house, or office, or it may be installed in the basement, utility room, or garage. After opening, it is advisable to turn off the appliance from the wall outlet using the ON-OFF switch and then continue with the following steps for safety.

If available, you should search near the area of the backup battery which is a rectangular battery measuring approximately 7 inches long and is commonly located at the bottom or a side of the panel connected to the alarm system board using red and black cables of power. At the bottom of the Galaxy Tab 10. 1 you might observe a small plastic or metal bracket that holds the battery in place: you will need to unscrew it with your Philips head screwdriver and then take the old battery out.

Look at the terminal ends of the wires connected to the old battery as mentioned above. You should find one red connector and one black connector; one of them is connected to the terminal of the battery. With a screwdriver, you need to unscrew the screws on each connector so that you can remove them from the old battery.

Next, using the new replacement alarm battery, place the red wire connector to the positive, or + end of the battery first. This terminal will be marked: Tighten the screw securely. Next screw the black wire connector onto the negative or - terminal second and screw it in place. Make sure that these connections are properly tightened so that there is no power loss at any one time.

If the new battery has a bracket that is used to hold it in place, tighten it well to ensure that the battery does not move around unnecessarily. Finally, put the battery back in its proper position remembering the polarity of the battery. There is one set of terminals on the battery where the red wires connect and another set where the black wires connect.

Once the connection is made correctly, reconnect the AC power cord to the panel and the wall socket nearby. This should be followed by the normal AC power light on your keypad being illuminated to show that power has been restored. If your system has a battery test button, it is advisable to press the button to check whether the new battery is working as expected. Sometimes, you will need to wait for a few hours for the battery to charge from the panel in case it was stored for some time.

Last but not least, turn off the alarm control panel box and switch off all lights and tighten the screws and again switch off the alarm and again switch on the alarm using your keypad and choose the Stay mode and then turn it to Off mode. If you get the no trouble indications your panel is once again powered by a new battery! Always carry your manual with you, as well as the receipt for the new battery in case you encounter complications later.

Annual replacement of the ADT panel battery ensures that your family & home are secured even if there’s a power outage. A fully charged battery could be different when an actual emergency arises or natural disasters like power outages render alarm monitoring and other forms of communication with the responders critical. As with any device, proper replacement of batteries ensures your security system runs efficiently and no further replacements are required. To be able to change the battery once a year instead of waiting for the low battery trouble signal is easier for the life of the toy compared to changing it just in time when it causes problems. This is a one-time maintenance that could keep you safe so make sure that you always check it.
