If you are experiencing a blank display or low battery notifications on your Vivint smart thermostat, it is time to replace the AA batteries. Like most smart thermostats, replacing the batteries on a Vivint thermostat is a simple process that should not take more than 5 minutes. Below is a guide on how to replace the batteries of your Vivint thermostat:

Materials Needed:

  • 2 AA type of alkaline batteries
  • Phillips head screwdriver of small size, 4-6mm

Before You Begin:

Ensure that your Vivint thermostat does not display the “Charging…” message or has a lightning bolt symbol. This means it is currently discharging off installed backup batteries and can only be replaced with the main batteries once it is done.

Step One: Shut Off the Thermostat

Begin by using the app to turn your thermostat off or, if the thermostat has a Physical Power button on the right side of the thermostat marked with an ‘O’ for off, slide the button to the off position. It is switched off before the batteries are replaced to ensure that it is switched off properly.

Step 2: Pull the Thermostat Off the Wall

To remove the thermostat pull the bottom portion of it away from the wall bracket. Some models might have a locking tab that has to be pressed before locking into place. Make sure you do not allow the temperatures on the thermostat to get too low.

Step 3: involves opening the battery compartment.

If you are concerned about the thermostat’s appearance, you have to turn it around to get to the back. In the middle, there will be a small cover protected by a Philips head screw. You only need to unscrew the screw to a point where the cover can be lifted off using your fingers. Put the cover and screw in the same place where it was before.

Step 4: Remove Old Batteries

You should notice that there are two AA batteries placed side by side in the compartment. Observe the polarity indicated on the battery terminals to know how to connect them properly. Carefully pry out the old batteries from the thermostat unit.

Step 5: New batteries are inserted in place of the old batteries that have been removed.

Take your two new AA alkaline batteries and align the positive (+) and negative (-) ends with the polarity diagram. Place the new batteries into the battery compartment. Ensure that they are well anchored or fixed in position.

Step 6. Replace Compartment Cover

Reinstall the small cover piece on top of the battery compartment to fit into the left screw hole. Fasten the screw back into position to lock the cover and that concludes the process of assembling the model. But do not overtighten it, or you will end up having a very hard time opening the lid.

Step 7: resynchronize with the thermostat base 125 is to resynchronize with the thermostat base.

After that, align the thermostat unit to the wall where its base bracket should be placed and the tabs on top should go into the slots. Carefully snap the bottom corner on the base, making sure it connects with a click.

Step 8: Reset Power Thermostat

Switch the thermostat back on using the power switch or through the application. Again, it will take a few moments for it to reboot and then connect to the Vivint network. The time and date settings may need to be changed.

Step 9: Test Operation

Set your desired temperature and fan settings to make sure that the thermostat runs as it should with its new batteries and manages your HVAC as you want it to.

The process is virtually the same no matter if you use the Vivint Smart Home App or visit the account portal website. Also, open for any battery change notifications here if there are any.

And that is how you can change out the batteries on a Vivint smart thermostat! These new AA batteries should be able to provide you with almost one year of continuous use before you have to replace them again. Always ensure you have some extra batteries closed so that you can change them as soon as you begin to see the battery notifications.

Make sure to install your Vivint thermostat in an area that will be convenient when it is time to replace the batteries again. Even though the thermostat makes it easy to replace batteries by yourself, you can always seek the assistance of Vivint technical support in case you experience any difficulties or challenges when replacing batteries or performing some other minor maintenance. Taking care of your batteries is crucial in making sure that your Vivint Smart Home system functions optimally.
