Customers can sometimes be required to reset the alarm system that has been installed in their homes or offices, and this alarm system is commonly known as the ADT alarm system. It is always useful to know how to reset your alarm since you may be locked out or the system is not functioning properly or perhaps, you wish to have the unit revert to its factory settings. Disarming an ADT alarm is normally a very simple process that you can do without any help in a short amount of time.
First, you must find out where your ADT alarm control panel is, installed in your house. This is the primary platform that is used to manage the alarm system. It is usually mounted in a closet, where the wall is adjacent to an entry door, or in your basement, garage, or utility room. When you find it, pull firmly on the bottom and flip up the main cover to reveal the control buttons. Search for the reset button – it may be labeled as ‘reset’, ‘rest’, ‘reset/clear’, ‘clear’, ‘reset/initialize’, or ‘init’. Some of the recognizable smaller labels encompass Reset, Default, Force, Factory Default, Trbl Silence, Program or Trbl Message.
The way it goes is that when one wants to press the reset button, the next procedure is to call the ADT monitoring. Give them your verbal password then tell the operator you want to change your security system. The operator will then log off your system temporarily to prevent the alarm generated by the reset from going to the alarm monitoring center. If you have your system being monitored by ADT and you reset it without their permission, they may cause the police to be dispatched or it may well be considered as a false alarm. If you have been approved by ADT monitoring, then the next steps involve resetting.
You will then have to shut your system down and then switch it on again before resetting the system. Find the power switch or circuit breaker and turn it off, unplug it, or open the backup battery compartment whichever applies to the control panel depending on its design. Turn off the electricity supply in the panel for a minute or so then activate the power supply again. This step reboots the alarm memory and sets it for the reset.
Now you are ready to reset the system or introduce the next phase of the game. Depress the reset button for roughly 5-10 seconds or until the keypad makes a beeping sound, or the AC light comes on. If the default reset is carried out in the newer models of ADT panels that come with a digital display screen, the screen may display Reset. If your alarm uses old generation analog alphanumeric display, you will notice that the screen contains some sort of scrambled text or even some strange characters if reset happens. Just wait for up to one minute while the ADT system is restored to its factory default settings to remove previous alerts, passcodes, zones, and any other settings.
This means that when you have waited for the right time to follow the reset sequence, you can then reprogram the system. To create a fresh primary passcode and then press 1 to complete the procedure. And then go through the process of re-registering all your sensors and keychain transmitters by pressing them to alert you. Unlock doors and windows, walk in front of the motion sensors, press buttons on an RFID keyless entry fob, etc. This will change all of your security zones back to default so all security equipment talks to the ADT panel correctly once more. Sometimes you may need to switch between the panel menus by pressing enter off then on or you may need to follow some numeric steps to complete the programming depending on the models of the alarm system that is installed. If you have not changed the passcode, check the instructions regarding the change of passcode and the enrollment of sensors that came with the ADT package.
It is then possible to call ADT monitoring back and let them know that your system is back up and reset for a cautious reactivation from their side. Their operators will take your passcode again and perform some other tests, which are remote. When all the rest of the equipment is operating as it should, they will turn your alarm status back on. By now you should be able to have your ADT system back in the state you found it when it was manufactured and ready to work. Before leaving it for use in the next couple of days, test all the sensors to confirm that they activate the keypad and the siren as expected. Switch on the system and switch it off both when leaving and coming to your compound to ensure that it is working as it should.
The reason calling into the monitoring service before resetting is important is that resetting the ADT alarm reboots all of the systems, functions, and passcodes that have been programmed. As much as ADT systems offer beneficial security to homes and businesses, resetting, them wrongly is likely to convene rather than avert misfortune. Be careful to avoid bringing up the splash screen if you are to reset your system in any way, always remember to restart it correctly. Writing down instructions is also another thing that may come in handy especially if you are in a situation where you have to reset your alarm panel in the future. Make sure to get to know all rebooting and hardware power cycle sequences in detail so that you can do them right when required.
